Taiwan is a land of many faiths and creeds, however this site is primarily dedicated to the most popular and unique of these. Taiwan's popular religion draws from a multitude of sources, most notably Taoism, Buddhism and Chinese Folk Religion. This rich and complex faith features a large number and variety of deities, drawn from Eastern religious traditions as well as Chinese history. Many of those now worshipped as Gods were once people, who after doing great things are believed to have become deities themselves.

The religious ceremonies that take place all around Taiwan feature these gods as their focal point. In these, gods are often represented by statues, which are carried around to visit other temples, although can also take the form of people dressed in their likeness, or larger than human sized hollow figures carried by the person inside. These slides will present some of the more important and interesting of the Gods of Taiwan.
